NBA star Shaquille O'Neal is mixing it up in the second season of Shaq VS., his ABC reality show, reports USA TODAY's Gary Levin.
In addition to competing against other sports stars in their chosen fields, he'll hang with Justin Bieber at a concert, visit Rachael Ray for a cook-off, try to defy illusionists Penn and Teller, and outdo the Nathan's hot-dog-eating champion Joey Chestnut and Scripps National spelling bee winner Kavya Shivashankar. More conventionally, he'll also race Dale Earnhardt Jr., attempt to outrun track and field star Tyson Gay in a relay race with the help of NBA pals, and box Sugar Shane Mosley.
"I'm out to prove that I can compete beyond athletics," O'Neal says in a statement. "I've spent all year sharpening my skills and I want to win. There's no challenge bigger than me." O'Neal, who played with LeBron James for the Cleveland Cavaliers last season, is now a free agent at 38, and is one of the oldest players in the league. Shaq VS.' six-week season (each episode includes a sports and a non-sports challenge) premieres Aug. 3 at 9 ET/PT.
